DIY Taco Seasoning (No Preservatives, Just Flavor)

Skip the store-bought taco packets filled with preservatives, anti-caking agents, and artificial flavors—this homemade taco seasoning is clean, customizable, and packed with real flavor.

Why Make Your Own Taco Seasoning?

Most commercial taco seasoning packets contain additives like MSG, maltodextrin, or silicon dioxide, which can contribute to inflammation or digestive upset—especially if you’re focused on gut health or detoxing your system.

With this recipe, you get full control over the heat, salt, and flavor profile—plus it only takes a minute to mix together.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder

  • ½ teaspoon paprika

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

  • 1½ teaspoons ground cumin

  • ¼ teaspoon red chili pepper flakes (adjust for spice preference)

  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano

Optional Add-ins:

  • ¼ teaspoon salt (or to taste)

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • Pinch of cayenne for extra heat

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl or spice jar. Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months in a cool, dark cabinet.

Use 2–3 tablespoons of this seasoning per pound of ground beef, turkey, or plant-based protein.

Tips:

  • Low-sodium tip: Omit salt if you’re managing sodium intake.

  • Double or triple the batch to have clean seasoning ready anytime.

  • Kid-friendly? Omit or reduce red pepper flakes for a milder version.
