I have cancer

It's the three most dreaded words that you pray you'll never have to hear or say, "I have cancer." I had to read the Facebook post again to be sure I was reading it correctly.  Those three dreaded words were written on her post. I will call her Jean to protect her identity. As Jean expressed further in her post with frustration and anger, "I was doing everything right." She eats organic, exercises, uses a whole home water filter and thermography versus mammography to reduce her exposure to radiation among many other preventative measures.  So how can you do everything right and still end up with this horrible…

12 Ways I Survived Allergy Season

I suffered with severe seasonal allergies and asthma for years.  My symptoms ranged from annoying to debilitating at times.  I had itchy eyes, runny nose, and fogged brain.  I was just plain miserable!  Sound familiar?  I went the conventional treatment route, but the side effects were as bad if not worse than the side effects of the allergies/asthma. As of today, I have not used a conventional allergy medication or my inhaler for 15 plus years! How did I do it?  It may be hard to believe, but I simply eliminated the foods in my diet that created inflammation and built my immune system back up.  The most important…

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent with Essential Oils

I have great intentions to be more “green,” by making homemade cleaning products, but most days, time doesn’t permit. I always buy as green as possible but taking time to purchase and create these concoctions is a rare treat. I finally got some time this weekend, so I used it wisely to create a homemade dishwasher detergent.  I researched several websites to determine which detergent recipe was the best.  I chose the recipe with essential oils in the ingredient list because I love the way the oils smell, and the oils add an extra cleaning boost!  Orange and lemon essential oils are both uplifting. I found most of the…

Use Whole, Clean Foods to Balance Hormones

Since 85% of women experience Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms (some can be severe) and about 75% suffer with menopausal symptoms, let's discuss what we can do to prevent or reduce such unnecessary discomfort! I suffered with excruciating pain and discomfort with PMS as I didn’t know that my diet and lifestyle choices were causing it. Menopausal symptoms however, have been virtually nonexistent as I now consume a whole, clean food diet. Infertility is another growing issue in the U.S. which impacts 11% or 6.7 million women. Sadly, the medical community is not considering diet and lifestyle as a solution.  Changing these thought processes could save billions of dollars…

Sweet Potato Bisque

From Forks Over Knives — The Cookbook Serves 6 This sweet and savory soup could almost be a dessert soup, as ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon are spices you find in many sweet potato and pumpkin pie recipes. The onion and garlic temper the sweetness, however, with a savory boost in this comforting recipe. Ingredients:  • 1 large onion, peeled and diced • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced • 1 tablespoon grated ginger • 1 tablespoon thyme • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and diced • 6 cups Vegetable Stock or low-sodium vegetable broth • Zest and juice of 1 orange • 1½ cups unsweetened plain almond milk…
