Are you making your health a priority?

Are you making your health a priority? The two best indicators of where you place priorities are found in your calendar and bank account. So, if you are working towards improving your career, health, or finances, start here.  How much time are you blocking for health activities such as meal planning, shopping, meal prep, or your fun, sweaty activity? And maybe your business or career is not where you would like it. How much time are you devoted to personal improvement, prospecting, marketing, sales, follow-up, or all the other IPA’s (income-producing activities) involved in a career or business?

Let’s talk about health first since that’s my passion and if you are here, it’s probably yours too. So many people complain about paying extra money for high-quality supplements (vs retail pharmacy grade), and nutrition and testing services not covered by insurance. You must value yourself and make both (health and your body) a priority.

I’ve been to clean juice stores where they sell a bottle of organic juice full of nutrients for $10-$12 and people would say “Are you serious…$10 for a juice?!” Plus, I hear women tell me they cannot afford to purchase organic food for their families because it’s too expensive. However, go sit in a bar or restaurant and no one bats an eye to pay $10-$15 for alcohol or an appetizer. And what about all the money everyone is spending at Chick-Fil-A! Yikes, I may have struck a nerve here. I don’t care how efficient they are. It’s the same unhealthy food you would get at any fast-food restaurant.

People will drop hundreds per month on lattes or cell phones, yet not want to spend $50 on a gym membership, or a few hundred on therapy or a coaching program.  The only Coach they may spend a few hundred dollars for would be the handbag. Ladies, what about the hair color, nails, and gosh knows what else we spend money on that doesn’t improve our health. I’m hitting below the belt now but how much is one salon appointment to color your hair? I’m guessing $150 or more, and some are doing this every 6 weeks? But again, discuss health testing that costs $300-$600 that we will do annually at most, and we have to think or pray about it??!! Now, I agree with praying but I’m guessing most women are not praying about their salon appointments!

These are all great examples of how most of our society views investing in their health. And then wonder why they don’t feel good or are not achieving their goals.

And what about our precious time that we are lacking? People spend hours scrolling on their phones or watching Netflix and but don’t have enough time to read, journal, meditate or go for a walk. The benefits of reading for even 30 minutes per day include improved brain health, better sleep, overall health, balanced emotions, and stress reduction. The average person spends 3 hours per day on social media.

Our actions show where our priorities are, not our thoughts and ideas.

If you’re having a difficult time making changes to your health, happiness, relationships, business, take a look at what you’re investing in. Not just investing with your money, but your energy, time, and/or attention.

Again, the two best indicators of where you place priorities are your calendar and bank account.

The more you give to yourself, the more you’ll get back. You deserve to have everything you desire and nobody else is going to give it to you but YOU.

If you are worried about the price of making a change, you should assess the cost of staying exactly where you are. Let me know if you need support in either area. I’m not perfect, just learned through life where and what to invest in.

Worried About the Mystery Virus? Don’t Panic…Prepare!

Chances are you have heard about the mystery virus that is now in at least 18 states and has prompted the hospitalization of thousands of young children with respiratory symptoms, including asthma-like breathing problems. Today, I will shed some light on what this “mystery” is, and what you can do to prepare yourself and your family for this and other viruses (e.g. colds and flu) that take hold this time of year.

According to Web MD, the “mystery virus” virus is known as Enterovirus D68. It was first identified in this country in 1962. Several sources like Web MD and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), report that they don’t know why Enterovirus D68 is on the rise this year. Additionally, they can’t tell us why this hardy virus has presented with an intensified impact on the lungs; especially in children that already have a history of asthma.

What we do know, is that it starts out as a typical cold with a runny nose, sneezing, and then coughing. Typically the wheezing and breathing difficulties start fairly soon; often two or three days from the onset of cold-like symptoms. While a fever can be part of this illness, at the present time, it has been reported that only 25-30% of children who end up being diagnosed with this virus actually experienced fever as a symptom. EV-D68 is spread by coming in contact with an infected person’s saliva, nasal secretions, or sputum. It appears that older people may have immunity to this virus due to previous exposures to it. That is one reason why this is being seen predominantly in children. If there is a concern about your child’s symptoms, seek appropriate medical attention promptly, because as of early October, 2 children have died from complications of this virus, and at least ten have experienced paralysis.

What can we do for prevention?

Here are a few prevention strategies that have helped reduce my occurrence of viruses, colds, and flu.

  • Cut the junk out of your diet and the diets of those you love. Sugar suppresses the immune system’s ability to function at the cellular level.
  • Eat more whole, clean foods. Consider taking a “superfood” like Modere Phytogreens.
  • Drink plenty of purified water.
  • Obtain the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep nightly.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. Spend enough time lathering and rinsing that you can sing “The Happy Birthday Song” before you dry them. Note: It is NOT recommended to use hand sanitizers to achieve the results you need. Chemical hand sanitizers can destroy the necessary good bacteria.
  • Do not allow the sharing of cups and utensils.
  • Encourage coughing into a tissue (and discarding it); or, if one is not available, people can cough into the crook of their arm.

Health Issues from Unwanted Organisms

Health Issues from Unwanted Organisms

“It is estimated that approximately 95% of the American population is infected with a unwanted organism of some kind.”

Most people do not know the symptoms of unwanted organisms, this is how so many become infected and do not even know about it. To make identification even harder many organism infections can be dormant and then spring to life.

Identifying your risk level for unwanted organisms based on your lifestyle choices and preferences can be an extremely helpful tool, this is why I am sharing this article with you today. Knowing what increases your risk for unwanted organisms and knowing the possible symptoms of infection will help you to spot trouble and seek help.

About Unwanted Organisms:

There are hundreds of different unwanted organisms such as tapeworms, to pinworms to many others. Unwanted organisms can be amoeba, bacteria, fungi, molds, worms, spores or even ticks.

Be aware that symptoms of unwanted organism infection can come and go but they may still point to an underlying unwanted organism infection because of their reproductive cycles. The various developmental stages of unwanted organisms often produce a variety of metabolic toxins and mechanical irritations in several areas of the body. For example, pinworms can stimulate asthmatic attacks because of their movement into the upper respiratory tract.

To identify your own risk level for unwanted organisms answer the following questions and note the number of items you can answer “yes” to each one.

For Adults:

  • Have you ever been to Africa, Asia, Central or South America, China, Europe, Isreal, Mexico or Russia?
  • Have you traveled to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Hawaii, or other tropical islands?

  • Do you use regular tap water that is unfiltered for colonics or enemas?
  • Can you traces the onset of symptoms (intermittent constipation and diarrhea, muscle aches and pains, night sweats, unexplained eye ulcers) to any of the above?
  • Do you regularly eat unpeeled raw fruits and raw vegetables in salads?
  • Do you frequently eat in Armenian, Chinese, Ethiopian, Filipino, Green, Indiana, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Pakistani, Thai or vegetarian restaurants; in delicatessens, fast-food restaurants, steak houses, or sushi or salad bars?

  • Do you grind your teeth?
  • Are you experiencing craving for sugar, depressions, disorientation, insomnia, lethargy, loss of appetite, moodiness, or weight loss or gain?

  • Is your baby a chronic crier?
  • Does your baby show a blotchy rash around the perianal area?

Interpretation of unwanted organism risk level:

40 or more: If you answered “yes” to more than forty items, you may be at high risk for unwanted organisms.

30 or more:  If you answered “yes” to more than thirty items, you may be at moderate risk for unwanted organisms.

20 or more: If you answered “yes” to more than twenty items, you may be at risk.

Some wonder why they should even care about unwanted organism infections, especially when they aren’t suffering from any major health issues. Remember, unwanted organisms rob your body of precious nutrients and can even begin eating their hosts over time. Plus they definitely play a role in what you crave, what you consume and how well your body is able to function.

The Alarm

I woke up before the alarm today, thank God. I really despise alarms. Alarms are loud, set our nerves on end, disrupt us from our focus (usually much-needed sleep), and force us to take action immediately.

My first thought this morning was that this is just like our health. The alarm signifies our “wake up” call. We may have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis or God forbid cancer.

Every day we make choices. We either say YES to health and NO to disease/sickness or we say YES to disease/sickness and NO to health. There really is no in between.

We can take action DAILY before the “alarm” goes off by drinking water to rejuvenate us in the morning instead of caffeine (that further stresses our body and interferes with our immune system).

We can take action by sleeping the 7-9 hours that our bodies demand.

We can take time to prepare REAL food. We can say YES to eating whole, clean (preservative, additive, hormone-free) food and NO to processed, dead, sugar-laden food.  We can also say YES to making health a priority for our children by teaching them what whole, clean food is!

We can say YES to fun, sweaty activity (i.e. exercise) for at least 20 minutes per day and NO to the television or our other numerous forms of technology.

We can STOP thinking food is RECREATION and start thinking of how it SHOULD serve and feed our body and cells.

The deficits continue to build in our body or should I say in our weakened immune system.  We are creating long-term “nutritional debt” (and you thought the national economic debt was bad) which is getting ready to trigger the “alarm”. alarm

Remember, once the “alarm” goes off, it will be much harder to turn it off than to prevent it from sounding in the first place.

Taking small steps every single day IS the answer to saying YES to health and NO to disease/sickness.

Because ultimately saying YES to health is about changing lives forever. People who experience good health also experience a fulfilled and satisfying life!  What steps are you taking daily to ensure good health?
