Homemade Dishwasher Detergent with Essential Oils

I have great intentions to be more “green,” by making homemade cleaning products, but most days, time doesn’t permit. I always buy as green as possible but taking time to purchase and create these concoctions is a rare treat. I finally got some time this weekend, so I used it wisely to create a homemade dishwasher detergent.  I researched several websites to determine which detergent recipe was the best.  I chose the recipe with essential oils in the ingredient list because I love the way the oils smell, and the oils add an extra cleaning boost!  Orange and lemon essential oils are both uplifting. I found most of the ingredients at our neighborhood Menard’s store.

Dishwashing Soap Ingredients

Borax, Washing Soda, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Orange & Lemon Essential Oils

Here is the recipe and amounts:

  • 2 cups of Borax
  • 2 cups of Washing Soda
  • 1 cup of Citric Acid (look in the canning area)
  • 1 cup of Sea Salt or Kosher
  • 10 drops of orange essential oil
  • 10 drops of lemon essential oil

I used a 1 gallon plastic bucket that my coconut oil comes in to mix the ingredients and to store the detergent.  Lesson learned: Place the bucket under the vent, as the fine powder is irritating when pouring and mixing.

  • Add all the ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  • Leave the lid off for a few hours to allow the mixture to dry.
  • Place a plastic spoon or small scoop inside and use about 1 Tablespoon per load.

My husband thought I was a little goofy because I was so excited about this, but I had good reasons to be excited! I saved money and helped save the earth! Who doesn’t get excited about saving money and the earth?

B Renewed is Turning a Vision into a Reality, One Step at a Time.

When I began B Renewed Wellness Solutions, it was a calling from God to take a leap of faith and share what I learned from my own experience about nutrition and natural healing. As I have followed that path, my success has grown from an office in my home to my next adventure, opening the B Renewed Wellness Center in Evansville, Indiana. Locating the B Renewed Wellness Center in a professional building allows me to expand my practice and offer more services to our community.

Over the past 30 days we have made great progress, and I have learned to appreciate the challenges a contractor, like my friend Penelope Pennington, face on every project. Serving as my own contractor has taught me patience, perseverance, and perspective. I am learning to accept that old buildings, like aging bodies, are never perfect. Focusing on progress rather than perfection is the key to success. Having support is also important. My husband, my son, and my friends have helped me in countless ways toward reaching our goal of opening in late February.

The B Renewed Wellness Center is located at 6700 Darmstadt Rd (corner First Ave/Kratzville Rd), on Evansville’s north side. The building is located on the west side of the street, across from Highland School. The office space is approximately 1000 square feet which includes my office, a spa room for a future SOQI (infrared) bed, a retail and reception area, and a small training room. You will be able to drop by during our open hours to purchase healthy products such as Enzyme Formulations Enzymes, Q-Link EMF protection, organic skincare and essential oils. Our current business hours are (subject to change) Monday-Thursday 9:00-4 pm or by appointment.

Saturday, February 15 is the day to start moving in furniture and the following week we plan to have internet and phone systems in place.  I’ll continue to post updates and exact dates as we progress so you will know when we transition to the new office. If you contact us during this transition period and don’t hear back within a day, please try again in case your message gets lost in the shuffle. In the meantime, please enjoy these photos of our work in progress.

How to Eat Healthy While Traveling

A big challenge for everyone is how to eat healthy while traveling and since the holidays are upon us, I thought it would be a perfect time to share some of my tips.  For most of us, the holiday season comes with a mixture of emotions, both negative and positive.  It’s a stressful time of year: holiday traffic, overcrowded stores, last-minute shopping, family drama… people fall back into old habits. You might think “There are no healthy options available”, “not enough time”, or “My emotions got the best of me”, but these are all excuses and not the truth.  Well, I have good news!  With my three simple rules and tips for healthy traveling; you will no longer have any excuses!

Rule # 1: Pack your food first!

While it may seem like perfectly coordinated outfits, shoes and accessories are a priority, your health is most important. Food should be planned and packed first, then worry about the other items once that is taken care of. Pack snacks or shelf-stable meals in your suitcase or your carry-on, if flying.

Helpful Tip: If you are flying, don’t forget about the current weight limit regulations. I always make sure to weigh my bag at the house before leaving to ensure I am under the weight limit and I am not penalized at the airport.

Rule # 2: Stay Hydrated!

Our bodies need water to function so it’s crucial to stay hydrated! Mild dehydration can cause constipation, brain fog, headaches, and muscle pain.

Helpful Tip: Pack a cooler of water and bring refills for the road to avoid stopping at the gas station where you’ll be faced with unhealthy choices.  Make sure it is pure, filtered water!  If you are flying, ask for water. Most airlines will have filtered water available.

Rule #3: Plan ahead!

If you and your family go to restaurants over the holidays, do a local search on Google so you will know which restaurants offer whole, clean food options. I call ahead and ask about vegetarian or wild seafood options.  If you are cooking Christmas dinner for everyone, have your whole, clean food recipes picked out and organized.

Here are some of my tips for your meals and snacks:

Breakfast:

Oatmeal is easy to prepare in hotel rooms.  I bring oats and let them soak overnight and then they are ready to eat at room temperature in the morning. You can soak oats in purified water or pack individual size servings of plant-based milk such as organic rice or coconut milk. Be sure to pack a few plastic utensils with you as well.  Most hotels provide in-room glasses or coffee cups which make perfect oatmeal bowls. Note: I do not use a microwave to heat any of my food as it destroys vital enzymes.

Another one of my breakfast favorites is a plant-based protein shake.  My favorite is Modere Slim Shake Vanilla Meal Replacement — the healthiest fast food ever.  You can mix it with water or plant-based milk in a shaker cup.  You can also pack a portable mixing device like a Nutribullet or a Ninja Mini.  I have both and find they are great for traveling.

Helpful Tip:  If I fly, I bring my Ninja Mini or Nutribullet.  The Ninja is a few pounds lighter, so I base my decision on which device to bring by how much weight I have left in my suitcase.  If I am driving, I take my Vitamix, as it is the quickest and most powerful of the three.

I like to pack “in-season” greens, such as; Swiss chard, kale mixed greens, or spinach to add to my shakes (assuming you are taking an electronic unit).

Snacks:

In-season fresh or dried fruit is a great option.  For example Bananas, apples, oranges, figs, dates, and dried veggies/fruits.  Raw carrots, celery, broccoli, and cauliflower work great too. Avocados are usually a favorite snack as well.  Be sure to pack a knife.

Beef jerky bites are a perfect source of protein. Make sure you purchase jerky that is preservative-free, especially nitrite-free, hormone, and antibiotic-free.  I discovered buffalo cranberry bites, which are quite unique.  I’m not a huge jerky fan so these seemed a bit more palatable than standard whole jerky.

Raw nuts and seeds work well, but be sure to limit your intake, as they are difficult for most to digest and can cause constipation. I always take an enzyme when I eat nuts or seeds and ensure that they are pre-soaked when possible.

Raw food bars from your local health food store are great.  Raw Revolution is one of my favorites and they have a number of flavors to fit your mood and taste preference. You can also make your own bars. My favorite is Chocolate Nut Butter Rice Treats.

Helpful Tip: If you tend to have a sweet tooth, pack several options such as organic granola bars, organic chocolates, or Juice Plus chewables.  Unlike sweets or candy bars offered at gas stations and airports, these healthy choices will fulfill your sweet cravings and are better for you.

Some of my favorite sweets are dark organic chocolate, preferably over 70% cocoa, and Juice Plus Chewables.  Juice Plus chewables contain 25 fruits, veggies, grains, herbs, and berries and taste delicious! You can fulfill a sweet craving and get additional phytonutrients from plants.

Dinner:

When at a conference or on vacation, I often find myself dining out.  I ask the concierge to recommend a vegan, farm-to-table, or organic restaurant.  If the concierge is not familiar with any of these types of restaurants, I turn to my good friend “Google” and search for vegan, farm-to-table, or organic restaurant options in the area. CAUTION: Many times “vegan” in a restaurant means pasta with a few veggies, which for me, is not an option.  Pasta is a filler food (low nutrient composition) and almost always contains gluten, which I avoid.

Seafood is usually a safer option when dining out, assuming it is wild-caught and not farm-raised.  How do you know if it is wild-caught or farm-raised? Simply, ask the server and if the server doesn’t know, ask them to ask the Manager or chef.  And if the fish comes covered in a sauce, ask the waiter to bring it on the side; so you can decide and control how much you eat.

Vegetarian options like salads with nuts, seeds, or beans are great but usually hard to find.  If they provide vegetarian options, DON’T ASSUME any of it is healthy or safe. Ask how it is prepared, what seasonings are used (could be MSG-laden), and which oils are used to cook.

Helpful Tip: One trick I use, whether I am on the road or at home, I eat “my appetizer” before I go. Eating something small before I leave helps me avoid the temptation to order appetizers.   Most appetizers are loaded with fat they are cooked in or laden with heavy sauces or cheeses, which are popular additions to appetizers.  Therefore; most appetizers = lots of fat and toxins with little nutritional value.

Some people are afraid to ask and feel they may cause a scene or inconvenience the server.  DON’T BE AFRAID. Your health should be your # 1 priority and you shouldn’t let some simple questions get in the way.

I hope you use my healthy eating travel tips during this holiday season and no longer have to worry about falling back into your old unhealthy habits.  Planning and packing ahead will help you resist all the unhealthy temptations and remain healthy and balanced.  I hope you have a happy, healthy holiday season!

Health Issues From Eating Genetically Modified Foods

Opt Out of the Genetic Engineering Experiment!

Look for the NONGMO Project Verified stamp

Look for the NONGMO Project Verified stamp

If you have not educated yourself on understanding genetically modified foods, then you should start now and keep reading. The first question is what is a genetically modified food? Monsanto takes DNA strands from insects and insert this DNA into food crops to make them more resistant to pests. GMO corn, for example, is designed to explode the stomachs of insects when they eat it.

When we eat the GMO plant, or the flesh, milk or eggs from those animals that did, we bring that mutated insect DNA into our bodies.

Who could think that this same effect wouldn’t impact the cells in our stomachs and especially our children’s?  Think about all the leaky-gut and intestinal issues that we suffer from. How could anyone think that GMO’s are safe and aren’t having a long-term serious impact on our health?

In 1992, the FDA stated there is no safety testing required for GMO’s and left it up to Monsanto’s own scientists to decide. Does anyone else have a concern letting Monsanto decide our fate?

Twenty years later independent research shows that GMO’s cause tumors and infertility in lab animals. Cattles, pigs and chickens fed GMO grains are sicker and require more antibiotics than ever before. Cows and pigs also experience arthritic conditions.

Other conditions linked to GMO foods are birth defects. GMO crops are designed to be tolerant to the pesticide Roundup, letting growers use more Roundup without damaging crops. GMO foods contain high concentrations of Roundup. Some areas where Roundup is used show a 70% increase in birth defects. Glyphosate, the chemical in Roundup, causes reduction in trace minerals in foods which are crucial to life. The chemical also has estrogenic properties and increases breast cancer proliferation rate.

We also have 5 million kids with food allergies, which are issues that we’ve never seen before. Let’s look at the escalation in leaky gut and intestinal permeability. This is where food is leaking into the bloodstream and creating antibodies. The reaction by these foods in the bloodstream causes allergic reactions.

So what can you do? First of all, support the environment and protect your family by purchasing nonGMO/organic foods. Support organizations that inform and protect us from GMO crops and educate yourself through watching documentaries such as Genetic Roulette and reading websites like www.nongmoproject.org. The NONGMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building resources of non-GMO products, educating consumers and providing verified nonGMO choices. Genetic Roulette is an absolute must-see to understand the impact of GMO’s.

The top 8 GMO ingredients to avoid are:

  1. Soy
  2. Cottonseed
  3. Corn
  4. Canola Oil
  5. Papaya
  6. Alfalfa
  7. Sugar Beets
  8. Milk

Even if you don’t use these  in your home, I’m sure your favorite restaurant does. Some restaurants will tout the use of hormone and antibiotic free meats. Although this is a great first step, a bigger concern was that the majority of the menu items that contain GMO’s!

So, how can you avoid or reduce your family’s exposure to GMO’s?  Look for the NONGMO stamp, buy from a trusted local farmer or a certified organic farmer.

3 Great Reasons Not to Use Hand Sanitizer

Most of my friends and family consider me a germaphobe so this list is a little out of character to tell you NOT to use hand sanitizer.  However, I’m not saying not use any hand sanitizer, just not the conventional chemical ones. Conventional hand sanitizers that you find retail are NOT a good option for your family due to the toxic ingredients and how they interact with the body. So here are three simple reasons why I avoid hand sanitizers:

1. It is poisonous if ingested.  Isopropanol is used to denature the ethanol in Purell and isopropanol is poisonous.

    • If ingested either accidentally or intentionally, alcohol poisoning can result. Two ounces of Purell is equivalent to four shots of vodka – it has 62% alcohol in it.
    • The New England Journal of Medicine published information on the dangers of ingesting hand sanitizers (The New England Journal of Medicine, Feb. 1, 2007; vol 356: pp 529-530.).  Material Safety Data Sheets warn us of allowing propylene glycol in direct contact with the skin. Propylene glycol is one of the key ingredients in hand sanitizers.

2. Chemical sanitizers kill ALL of the bacteria on the skin. We need to keep the good bacteria as these bacteria help fight the bad bacteria, viruses, and fungus that can make people sick. Not all bacteria are bad! By eliminating all of the bacteria, our skin is stripped of protection and lowers our immunity.

3. It can be drying to the skin. It removes all of the natural oil on the skin and can dry it out.

So what do I use as a safe form of hand cleaner?  I use a homemade mixture of  lemon or orange essential oil mixed with water in a spray bottle. These oils are extracted from the rind of the fruit and God added the natural cleansing properties. Also, unlike conventional chemical products, pure essential oils will not destroy the good bacteria on your skin.

Six Signs That The Body Needs Enzymes

Before we look at the six signs of needing enzymes, we should review exactly what enzymes are.

What are Enzymes?
The three types of enzymes include those made in the body, those found in raw food, and metabolic enzymes responsible for all biochemical reactions in the body. Enzymes are protein substances produced by living cells.  Besides performing all of the biochemical reactions in your body, they also digest food and allow a healthy inflammatory response. Healthy inflammation is a normal function that allows the body to protect itself from foreign invaders and repair injured tissue.

Food enzymes are found in all living substances, including raw foods.  However, most of our foods are canned, cooked, or processed, which removes the vital enzymes.Enzymes can deliver nutrients past a compromised digestive system, because they digest food in the stomach.

Animal based enzymes like pancreatin do not perform the same function, as they do not work in the acidic environment of the stomach.  They only work in a pH of 7-9. The pH of the stomach can range from 3-9. There are different enzymes to breakdown fats, proteins and carbohydrates and it is important to know which your body needs.  To determine this, we recommend an Enzyme Nutrition Evaluation which includes the 24 Hour Urinalysis Testing.

So how do you know if you need enzymes?  First, if you are over 40 years of age, you can probably be assured that you need them.  Most of us by this age have exhausted the digestive enzymes that are crucial to enable us to break down and assimilate nutrients.  However, with today’s fast-paced lifestyles, I’ve seen 20 year olds that have exhausted their supply.  One way they can be used up is by eating the same foods over and over which most people do.

Six Signs that the body needs enzymes are:

1. Indigestion
2. Fever
3. Redness
4. Swelling
5. Pain
6. Muscle contractions

A few other signs are cravings for certain foods.  If your body is unable to digest and assimilate the food, your body will continue to crave the missing nutrients.  Filling the nutritional void with whole foods and herbs and adding the appropriate enzyme is key.  Your body may be struggling to break down fats, proteins or carbohydrates, so knowing which one is key to determining the right enzyme for you.

Regarding indigestion, most people experience some form, and using over-the-counter antacids retard digestion and can cause long-term side effects. Your body isn’t lacking antacids; your body is most likely deficient in enzymes.

What does an Enzyme Nutrition Evaluation consist of? Many ask what a consultation with me would look like or simply ask how I can help them.  So I have put together some information that would not only help those coming to me for the first time, but help my current clients better understand the evaluation, as well as introduce some new steps in the process.

The steps include:
1. Interpretation of the Signs & Symptoms Survey and Health History
2. A comprehensive Personal Interview
3. 24 Hour Urinalysis
4. Stress Point non-invasive Palpatory Examination
5. A Report of the Findings

At the end of the evaluation, we provide you with a report of the conclusions, with recommendations for nutritional supplements using whole food, food enzymes, herbs, vitamins and minerals. These recommendations are nutrition-based to enhance your personal health and well-being.

What we will not do is make a medical diagnosis nor provide treatment recommendations for any medical condition. My regular services are also not covered by insurance policies or Medicare.

Is Your Dream Dust in the Wind?

DreamsYou created that goal to realize your dream. You signed that agreement and made a commitment. You were so excited (as my friend Chris says, “running around like your hair is on fire” excited) and then one day it died.  Kansas (the musical group, for the young people) said it best, “All my dreams pass before my eyes…like dust in the wind.”

My first question is, why did this happen? Why did the dream fade?  You pictured yourself finally out-of-debt, in the convertible sports car or on the beaches of a remote island, and the dream suddenly became dust in the wind.

Well, “why” is the question, but it is also the answer.  Your “why” is the burning reason that keeps you going when your motivation wears off (which is usually pretty quick for most).  This is summed up by a quote from the late, great Zig Ziglar, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

Regarding motivation, you can’t use reason or logic or cheerlead yourself into it.  Motivation is an emotion that has to come from deep down inside your soul. It is the burning desire that keeps you going when life gets in the way.  Excuses are easy to generate and deter you from staying on track because you can always find something you “need” to do.  However, is the immediate need going to get you closer to what you WANT to do?

I’ve heard lots of  great Why’s like:

  • I want to help build an orphanage.
  • I want money for a much needed new car.
  • I want to leave my day job and stay at home with my kids.
  • I want the corporate benefit package and bonuses to take the pressure off my husband to help him realize his dreams.
  • I want to afford private school for my children.
  • I want to help our community build a new church.
  • I want to lose weight and have energy.

So if these are your dreams and you haven’t realized them yet, let’s look at why you have not…
The 4 Reasons your “Why” is not working!
1. Your Why was never established
“I started this goal because it seemed like it was the answer to my problems,” and/or “everyone else was doing it,” or “because someone asked and I didn’t want to hurt their feelings.”

2. Your Why was never solid
“I need to pay off some bills.” This will most likely NOT keep you motivated unless you are filing bankruptcy.

3. Fear took over
I know these because I’ve experienced them all.  “What will people think of me?” “I can’t talk to him/her because they are too important.” “I’ve done this before and these programs never work.” (Correct, they do not work unless you WORK and focus on your why and on your mind/thoughts)

4. Unworthiness set in
“I shouldn’t make money from helping others.” “Rich people are evil and snobbish and I don’t want to be like that.”  “My friends or family have never been on a dream vacation or drive a luxury car, so why would I deserve this?”

So, if you are tired of being average, just getting by, and ready to STOP making excuses and START living your dreams, take the next step.  Carve out 30 minutes, 60 minutes or whatever it takes to dig deep and figure out what you want out of life and WHY.  Take your dreams off the shelf.  Write it down and then share it with someone who will support you to ensure it is a rock solid reason why.  Or share it with me here, as I’d love to hear it.

So instead of your dreams being dust in the wind, let’s have our fear, unworthiness and all the other negative thoughts be the Dust in the Wind.

And just in case you would like to stroll down memory lane with Kansas…

Dust in the Wind by Kansas
“Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

I close my eyes
Only for a moment, then the moment’s gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind…”

Natural Health Care and Detox

You are probably already aware that toxins are virtually everywhere. They are found in foods, in the environment, in our personal care products, in our cooking tools, and much, much more.

You might even know some of the ins and outs of avoiding toxin intake. Things like…

  • Eating whole foods
  • Eating organic, non-GMO, or locally grown clean (pesticide/herbicide-free) foods
  • Skipping processed/packaged foods
  • Switching from conventional chemical-based cleaning & personal care products to natural
  • Using EMF protection with your electronics like Q-Link

… are just a few basic ways to avoid toxins. There are lots of toxins that are more difficult to avoid, like toxins in the air and soil. Plus, even when you do your best to avoid toxins there can even be a buildup of existing toxins within your body that need to be cleared. If you want a personalized look at your body’s toxin load as well as a look at where you stand nutritionally I strongly recommend having Hair Tissue Mineral Testing done.

A Hair Tissue Mineral Test is a screening test for the level of 21 minerals and toxic metals in a sample of hair. It is a tissue mineral biopsy that is non-invasive, and extremely accurate.

Regular detoxification of the body is essential to prevent toxic overload and enjoy optimal wellness.

Detoxification is an already natural process for the body. Our feces, urine, lungs, and skin (sweat) are great examples of how the body already unloads much of the useless or harmful substances that enter our body.

To aid in the detoxification natural process you can try any number of the following tips & ideas:

LEMONADE DIET RECIPE

Lemons are great for weight-loss and detox from many ailments including the flu. I’ve used this recipe for years anytime I feel I need to detox or feel I’m starting to catch something I didn’t want.

(1 SERVING) From: http://www.thelemonadesite.com

* 1/2 lemon or 2 tbsp of lemon juice
* 1-2 tbsp of pure grade B maple syrup (1tbsp recommended for weight loss)
* 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper (red) or to taste
* 8 oz of purified water

Lemon juice has beneficial properties that aid in cleansing, detoxifying, and healing the body. The rinds have powerful detox properties as well which are quite different. Lemon essential oil is extracted from the rind and is great for sore throats.

Hydrate to help your body flush out the bad!

Be sure you are drinking enough water! Without water, the body can’t flush and without flushing, toxins won’t leave the body.

Wondering how much is enough water? Take your body weight and divide it by 2, that is how many ounces of water you need each day. So a 150 lb person/2 = 75 oz of water needed a day  or 9 glasses a day. Remember liquids from clean sources of broth, herbal (noncaffeine) teas, juice from fruit, etc. all count too. Peppermint or spearmint herbal tea are two of my favorites.

Jump in the tub!

Detox baths are great anytime but especially during periods of compromised health or when you aren’t feeling your best. Here’s a great recipe using simple ingredients.

ULTIMATE DETOX BATH

Recipe from: http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/11/the-ultimate-detox-bath.html

  • 2 cups Epsom Salt (or Sea Salt) – draws out toxins from your body while relieving aches and pains
  • 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar – soothes and softens dry, itchy skin while balancing the bodies and neutralizing the bodies pH.
  • 1/2 cup Bentonite Clay  – stimulates the lymphatic system to deeply cleanse the body’s largest breathing organ, the skin.
  • 5-10 drops of your favorite Essential Oil – lavender, geranium, sandalwood, and blue tansy are all known for their detoxifying properties.

Run your bath water as hot as you like. Add your “ingredients” and agitate to dissolve. Soak for 20-40 minutes. Drink a full glass of water when you’re finished.

However, if you don’t have bentonite clay, you can use it without it. I like to switch ingredients, one night it’s ACV, and the next use Epsom salts. What are your favorite detox bath ingredients?

Benefits of Chia Seeds

Do you know the many benefits of chia seeds? They are truly a superfood.  Many of us have heard of the Chia Pet. Some of us even remember the silly “chi, chi, chia” jingle! But have you heard of eating chia seeds? Chia seeds are one of the most nutritious superfoods known yet so few people are enjoying them.

I made this video to help share the beauty of chia seed consumption and I’ve got loads of chia seed facts below the video. After you’ve learned a thing or two about the amazing chia seed, get yourself some and add them to your diet for wonderful nutritional benefits.

How to Prevent Chronic Disease with the benefits of Chia Seeds

  1. The gel that forms when a chia seed is soaked is due to soluble fiber in the chia. In your digestive system, this gel actually slows down the conversion of carbohydrates to sugar, thus helps to stablize blood sugar.
  2. Chia is an excellent source of Essential Fatty Acids, which are critical for concentration and other brain functions.
  3. Chia nutrients like proteins, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, and complex carbohydrates energize you.
  4. Chia seeds swell in water and help to make you feel full and potentially eat less which can help in weight loss efforts.
  5. Chia contains soluble fiber has been shown to help lower cholesterol.
  6. Chia is high in protein and helpful in a weight loss or muscle building diet. Plus it’s even low-carb and vegetarian!
  7. Chia contains calcium and contains the trace mineral boron which speeds the rate at which calcium is absorbed and utlized by the body.
  8. Remember that chia seeds are loaded with over 60% omega-3 essential fatty acids. Not only are they good for your mental clarify, those same essential fatty acids help skin, nails, and hair grow strong and healthy. Plus, they’re also a great source of protein, which is essential to grow healthy hair, nails, and skin. They contain more omega-3’s than flax seed. Omega fatty acids are important for concentration and brain health as well as other metabolic processes.
  9. Chia has an extremely low glycemic index of 1, and actually helps to lower the rate at which other carbohydrates are converted to sugars.

More benefits of chia seeds…how to prevent digestive health issues

  • Chia seeds can soak up to ten times their weight in water! If it were to soak for half an hour or so, the gel effect is even more dramatic. The gel is an actually soluble fiber that is swelling in the water into hydrophylic colloid that has a medicinal affect for many digestive health issues.
  • Chia seeds provide calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, molybdenum, niacin, zinc, and even boron (which helps the absorption of calcium by the body).
  • Chia is a gluten-free source of fiber and nutrition. Chia is beneficial to the digestive system.
  • Chia is composed of over 20% protein, which is about 2 to 3 times higher than other seeds and grains. If you are a vegetarian looking for protein sources, chia seeds are a good source. Plus, the protein source in chia is readily digestible and available to the body.
  • Chia has both soluble fiber (which forms the outer gel), and insoluble fiber. Both types of fiber are healthy for the digestive system. The insoluble fiber helps cleans the intestinal tract. The soluble fiber can act as a prebiotic and help feed the good bacteria in your digestive system.

Note: Chia seeds do not need to be ground for their nutrients to be available to the body. Plus, chia is very shelf stable without the need for special packaging or concern of rancidity.
