What is Mental Fitness

What is Mental Fitness

What is mental fitness?

It’s a new concept in health called mental fitness. It’s the percentage of time your mind is serving you versus sabotaging you.

Independent researchers have validated the PQ (Positive Intelligence Quotient)  Score to be the single greatest predictor of how much of your potential for both success and happiness you achieve.

Research has shown that higher PQ results in enhanced immune system functioning, lower levels of stress-related hormones, lower blood pressure, less pain, fewer, colds, better sleep in a smaller likelihood of having hypertension, diabetes, or strokes.

What Is Mental Fitness?

Stanford lecturer and best-selling author Shirzad Chamine has developed a program and book called Positive Intelligence®. Your Positive Intelligence quotient, or ‘PQ’, is a measure of your mental fitness. PQ measures the percentage of time your mind is serving you versus sabotaging you. Independent researchers have validated PQ Score to be the single greatest predictor of how much of your potential for both success and happiness you achieve.

According to Shirzad, 80% of us score below the minimum level of mental fitness required for peak performance and happiness.

But the good news is that mental fitness can be significantly improved with just 6 weeks of daily practice. Shirzad tells us that doing 100 PQ reps a day to build mental muscles (essentially, creating new neural pathways) is the equivalent of taking 10,000 steps a day for physical fitness or weight training by doing reps with a dumbbell.

Helping every human build mental fitness so they can fulfill their true potential for both happiness and contribution.

How is PQ different from other programs including meditation or mindfulness?

PQ Treat Root Cause, not Symptoms

The factor analysis research has revealed the foundational root-level enablers and disablers of optimal performance and well-being. We rewire the brain at the root cause level.

PQ Focuses on Habit Formation

Most training results in short-lived improvements. For sustained results, we focus on building neural pathways that form lasting new habits. That’s why we call this “mental fitness”.

PQ Develops all 3 Core Muscles

Mental fitness requires 3 core muscles. Saboteur Interceptor, Self-Command, and Sage. Meditation only focuses on Self-Command, which is why it is not sustained by most.

An analysis of more than 200 scientific studies, which collectively tested more than 275,000 people, concluded that higher PQ leads to higher salaries and greater success in the areas of work, marriage, health, sociability, friendship, and creativity.

Daily Practice with the App

PQ app

The PQ app includes a mental fitness gym to offer a variety of PQ exercises using different senses. There are exercises for sitting or walking and they vary in length from 2 to 12 minutes. The app tracks your daily progress so you can check your progress against the targets for creating new neural pathways. It also gives you a daily focus of the day to guide your practice incrementally over 6 weeks.

15 minutes/day of app-guided practice enables you to establish mental muscles (neural pathways). These exercises are bite-sized to fit your busy schedule and customized based on how you self-sabotage.

You may be asking, is this the right program for me?

This is the right program for you if you are:

  • Committed to improving your performance and effectiveness dramatically while reducing stress
  • Looking for a science-based and trusted system to make it stick
  • Willing to put in the initial effort to rewire years of mental habits that don’t serve you

Take the Mental Fitness or PQ Assessment

The PQ program has been transformational for my personal and professional life as well as for my clients. If you’d like to learn more about PQ, or test your levels, you can do so here. If you have questions or want to be added to the waitlist, drop a comment below. I only run the program a few times a year and limit the program to 10 members.

When you take the assessment, I’d love to hear your results.  Better yet, schedule a free Wellness Strategy Session to learn more.

Top 10 Ways to Prevent Colds and Flu

Sick childColds, flu, and sinus infections are now part of history for our family. For me, it has been over 20 years since I’ve experienced any of these unpleasant symptoms. Some of the benefits of less sick time include more quality time with my family, productive time in my business, hundreds of dollars saved in toxic over-the-counter and prescription medications, and much less misery in general!

Obviously, there are no guarantees but these are things that have worked for me, my clients, and many others who have experienced the same benefits.

I don’t buy into the germ theory as I’m around sick people quite often. And, if this theory were true, then why is it I no longer get sick as I did for the first forty-plus (unhealthy) years of my life? I can tell you it is not because I’m getting a flu vaccine or any other “preventative” vaccine. I’ve learned to put the right (whole, clean) foods in and let my body do the rest! And, I thank God for creating such amazing work in us that this process can and does happen. Can I get an amen?! So here is my top 10:

  1. Eat predominantly organic and non-genetically engineered foods to eliminate toxic pesticides and herbicides. Not sure you understand the dangers of genetically engineered foods? Watch Genetic Roulette.
  2. Eliminate or greatly reduce dairy and gluten. Both are extremely difficult for most people to digest, highly inflammatory, and therefore, can stress the immune system.
  3. Replace toxic personal care and household cleaning products with natural, safe, non-toxic versions. This includes products such as antibacterial soap, hand sanitizers, toothpaste, mouthwash, laundry detergent, and cleaners. Note that antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers contain highly toxic chemicals and destroy the good bacteria that we need. Regarding personal care, which includes cosmetics, shampoo, deodorant, etc, consider switching to a more natural version.
  4. Reduce dining out and become a vegetarian when you do. Animal products are loaded with antibiotics, hormones, and genetically engineered chemicals.  Unless you can locate a restaurant that serves grass-fed meats (highly unlikely in the tristate), become a temporary vegetarian!
  5. Reduce sugar and sodium! Read ingredient labels on food as they are in everything from ketchup, pasta sauces, soup, and more. Even organic foods can be loaded with sodium and sugar. Picture of processed foods and level of sugar in each
  6. Grow your own food. Vine-ripened produce grown organically provides the highest nutrient values possible. Produce that has been picked green and sat in a store for a week, can lose up to 50% of its nutrient values. Find a local farmers market or CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in your area.
  7. Eat more plants than animals. Plant-based foods are naturally anti-inflammatory, alkaline, and contain antioxidants and fiber.  Animals do not meet this criterion which is a key to health and easing digestion.
  8. Use a plant-based whole food superfood powder to fill the gap between what you are and aren’t able to eat every day. Getting the recommended servings of organically grown, vine-ripened, fruits, vegetables, and berries a day is almost impossible for most of us. And even if you do, our food is low in critical minerals. I use an ancient sea minerals powder that is simple (mix with water) and tastes delicious.
  9. Take a plant-based digestive enzyme with each meal especially if you are over forty years of age. Most of us have consumed enough processed food, alcohol, and medications to reduce our natural production of enzymes.
  10. Reduce or eliminate alcohol, caffeinated coffee, soft drinks, and drink filtered water instead. A better filter system is reverse osmosis.  A great company is Aquasana for under the sink or whole home. We’ve purchased both.

So, I know many of you may be thinking that this sounds expensive, hard, or just plain not fun. In my opinion, what is hard, expensive, and not fun would be having triple bypass surgery, being diagnosed with cancer, put on a respirator, or leaving a void in my family.  You have to value your health and life first and then the rest is easy. Your body truly is a temple so please treat it as one. YOU are worth it. As always, reach out as we can walk you through each step one at a time.

Why Naturopathy is of value and 5 simples steps to afford it.

According to the the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians “Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods.”

As I have worked and resided in the state of Indiana and now currently in South Carolina, I know that doctors of Naturopathy are not permitted to be licensed. Therefore, Naturopathic doctors are not covered by insurance. They also do not treat, diagnose or cure disease.  The mission is to educate and empower you in the area of health and healing. If you are new to Naturopathy or unclear of the difference between Allopathy and Naturopathy, it may be difficult to justify the out-of-pocket expenditure.

*Although I am trained as a Naturopath, I do not practice Naturopathy in the state of South Carolina.

Many people view Naturopathy as an investment in their health and life. Most of us allocate monies for vacations, new vehicles, and the latest technology, but how many of us consider setting monies aside for our health or rather the true healing of our bodies?

I can’t put a dollar amount on holistic health, but I know it has saved my family’s budget thousands of dollars in medical expenses, copays, and prescriptions. Naturopathic doctors educate and empower people in the art of healing naturally. Consequently, this may allow people to avoid or reduce purchasing prescription medications, the same medications that create side effects and cause a vicious cycle of needing additional medications to counter the side effects.

5 Simple Ways to Afford Naturopathy:

  1. Set monies aside each week. Being a Dave Ramsey graduate, I believe in a $1000 or more emergency fund. How about doing the same for your health?
  2. Find non-essential areas to trim the budget, such as the cable, phone, or internet bill. Once you have reduced these bills, set aside the saved money for visits to your Naturopathic doctor.
  3. Add up your prescription medication and copay costs currently. Imagine not having the burden of these expenses. How much money would you save if you learned how to balance your body without prescription medicine? Become empowered by the healing practices of naturopathy.
  4. Dine out one less day per week and set aside the money you would spend on that one meal into your emergency fund.
  5. Ask for gift certificates for birthdays and holidays from your friends and family.

Besides saving money, consider the overall health benefits of natural solutions.  In the past 15 years, we have had minimal sickness in our family, so we have not had to see a medical doctor for sick care or take any type of conventional medicine including over the counter products. Learning to use whole, clean food as our medicine is what started me on the path to learn how to educate others.

Naturopathic doctors may see clients experiencing everything from minor to major health issues.

  • Most Naturopathic doctors believe God gave our bodies the ability to heal, given the appropriate resources.
  • In most cases, Naturopathic doctors do not utilize chemical or invasive means to heal the body.
  • Naturopathic doctors focus on preventative health and offer an alternative for those who feel conventional medicine may not always be the best solution for the body.

If you are looking for a licensed Naturopathic Physician, currently only sixteen states provide licensing laws for naturopathic physicians:
